Team Tiger

Welcome to our Team Tiger page! Thank you for visiting.
Have a look around and if it inspires you please leave a donation to support people in need.

You can also see our training pictures and diary online at teamtiger.wordpress.com.
We are not going to be super-fast. Our goal is to finish the walk and still smile at the end :-)

Annika Hinze (Stripey Tiger)
Why walk—why not? I love challenges and this certainly is one. And it is for a good cause; so there is a good reason for stretching myself. I actually do not like walking—I definitely prefer bicycles. But using walking poles turned out to be very helpful for balance so I am willing to put away the bike this time. This walk gives me the chance to combine fun with friends and personal challenges with doing something useful. Team Tiger has a goal  to raise more than $5000; very little if you think about how many people need our support. But we need the help of lots and lots of people putting in their little share to make this happen.
Are you involved yet?

Motto: “Just get going”

Amy Hacker (Friend-lee tiger)
When I first considered walking 100K through the New Zealand bush, it seemed like a bit of fun.  I guess it is strange to think what appeals to each of us as fun…but, I have always enjoyed a challenge and was raised in a family who routinely tramped 12 hours a day on holidays.  The opportunity to do something I love and while concurrently providing a catalyst to encourage people to donate to Oxfam, is a real privilege. I truly believe changing the world begins with putting one foot in front of the other… despite the fact that we feel powerless… despite the fact that our small contribution feels like a drop in a bottomless bucket. Team Tiger has a goal to raise $5500. This seems like a huge amount but with a little help from many people I am sure it can be done. Consider a donation in someone’s name which could be a deeply moving gift and  help provide clean water and healthcare essentials for many people in need.

Motto: “Every small droplet in a bucket will help to fill it to the top.”

Nancy Burroughs (Nan –see tiger).
I have always wanted to do a pilgrimage of some type and this is a great place to start. I may not be the fastest but after a knee injury when skiing some years ago I am very thankful that I can still walk. With this walk I hope to help raise funds for those many people in the world who have to walk long distances to find wood and water for heating, cooking and basic survival. Some do not even have access to clean water, something that we take for granted in this lovely country of Aotearoa.
An on-going commitment of $10 per month for 12 months  will help provide clean water and healthcare essentials for many people in need. Please help.

Motto: “The only way to get anywhere is  by taking one small step at a time.”

Andrew McKean (Hungry tiger).
I chickened out two years ago, last year I had an "important" wedding to go to ... but no more excuses - 2008 is THE YEAR! Hungry Tiger finally gets to walk his 100km for a very good cause. It's not the first time I've walked for a charity or social justice - I used to do the Community Chest sponsored walks in Hong Kong as a youth, and several years ago I spent a week with the Hikoi of Hope. But this is the most ambitious walk. 100km in under 36 hours, and raising $5,500 in doing so. It seems like a big ask, but this is one really practical way to alleviate poverty - raise some money and send it where it will do some good. A few days out of my life, a few dollars out of your pocket will give somebody the gift of clean water and better health.
Give generously ... and make a positive difference in the world!

Motto: “God has no hands but our hands”
