When disaster strikes around the world, Oxfam and our partners move quickly to provide life-saving assistance to people in need. Then we stay for the long-term to rebuild lives and reduce the risk of future disasters.
Oxfam is helping 85,000 people affected by the massive earthquake which struck Haiti on 12 January, as efforts move from search and rescue into the recovery phase.
On September 29, 2009 an earthquake of 8.3 magnitude triggered a tsunami which devastated villages along the southern coasts of Samoa, American Samoa, and the northern islands of Tonga.
Oxfam was in Samoa immediately following the tsunami to help distribute emergency relief materials including food, water and clothing. We are continuing provide safe water and sanitation and to support the long term rebuilding of people's livelihoods in rural communities.

It is now nearly six years since the crisis in Darfur broke out, yet the suffering and devastation still continues on an unimaginable scale.
Ongoing violence forces thousands more to flee every month. Yet aid workers in the region are finding it increasingly difficult and dangerous to reach the people in need.
Oxfam's work continues long after disaster strikes, including rebuilding livelihoods, conflict management and water and sanitation work.
