About Oxfam Trailwalker

In 2011, Oxfam Trailwalker New Zealand saw up to 300 teams (that's almost 1200 participants!) walk or run 100km over the weekend of April 9th - 10th in Taupo. The 2012 event is now open for registration. Don't miss out - enter your team now!

This is what it's all about...watch this!

Physical challenge

Every year teams of four descend on Lake Taupo to take on the World's Greatest Team Challenge, walking 100km in 36 hours. Not only are teams challenged to cross the finish line together, but we also encourage them to do the last leg in fancy dress!

Fundraising challenge

Oxfam Trailwalker is not just a physical challenge, each team must also commit to raising at least $2000 to support Oxfam New Zealand's work. By raising money for Oxfam New Zealand you will be making a tremendous difference to people's lives. Fundraising is a challenge, but it's also great fun! Click here for more info.

Global phenomenon

Oxfam Trailwalker New Zealand is part of an international series, with more than 12 events being held around the world (and counting), including Hong Kong, the UK, Japan, New Zealand, France and Australia. The event has raised millions internationally.

How did it begin?

The event began in 1981 as a military exercise for the elite Queen's Gurkha Signals Regiment in Hong Kong, and has since grown into one of the world's leading sporting challenges.

Oxfam Trailwalker NZ

Oxfam Trailwalker has been running since 2006 in New Zealand, with over a thousand people taking part each year. And every year we capture it on camera. Check out the pages below to see photos, videos, blogs and more ...

Volunteers

Oxfam Trailwalker is a massive logistical exercise. Almost 400 volunteers work tirelessly over the event weekend to make it possible. Volunteers work in various roles from checkpoint coordinators and track marshals to drivers and physiotherapists. Their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work play a pivotal role in making Oxfam Trailwalker a success.

Oxfam New Zealand is committed to environmental sustainability. We’re proud to walk the talk through Oxfam Trailwalker, which is at the forefront of sustainable event management in New Zealand. For the past three consecutive years, Oxfam Trailwalker has been awarded Best Environmentally Sustainable event by the NZ Association of Events Professionals. Find out more.

We work hard to minimise the impact made by Oxfam Trailwalker and are pleased that the event is a showcase for sustainable practices.
