Gear checklist for participants

Essential team items to carry

  • Participant number (provided at registration) to be visible at all times
  • Oxfam Trailwalker Map and Directions booklets (provided at registration)
  • First Aid Kit including knee/ankle bandages
  • Survival blanket each
  • At least 2x mobile phones on different networks (there is varying coverage along the course)
  • Blister prevention and treatment

Gear to wear/carry

  • Comfortable daypack
  • Hydration pack or water bottle with 2L capacity
  • Walking poles
  • Sunscreen
  • Buff or beanie
  • Thermal clothing
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket
  • High energy snacks – salty to prevent cramping and sweet for energy
  • Comfortable socks and spare pair
  • Comfortable ‘worn in’ walking/running shoes
  • Light gloves
  • Camera

Gear to leave with support crew (in your Maui) for when needed

  • Oxfam Trailwalker Support Crew directions and map (provided at registration)
  • Head torches, batteries and spare bulbs. Don’t forget to take these from your support crew at the checkpoint BEFORE dusk
  • Changes of clothes for warm and cold weather
  • Multiple change of socks
  • At least one other pair of shoes or boots
  • Hot water bottle and blankets or sleeping bag to keep you warm at Checkpoints at night
  • Spare glasses or contact lenses if you wear them
  • Electrolyte drinks
  • Snacks and fruit
  • Hot food and meals. Your support crew must provide you with all substantial meals during the event.
