In pictures: West Africa food crisis

In West Africa, more than 10 million people are experiencing a serious food shortage due to a lack of rainfall. Niger is at the centre of the crisis, with over 8 million people – around half of its population – affected. The growing problem affects 2 million people in Chad and an estimated 629,000 in Mali. The extreme north of Nigeria and parts of Mauritania (369,711 people) and Burkina Faso are also affected.
