![]() |
The choices we make every day have an impact on the world around us. Here at Oxfam, we’re interested in helping New Zealand kids learn the value of fairness so sign your classroom or school up to take part in Oxfam’s Biggest Chocolate Break and help make a big difference in the lives of people in the developing world who are working their way out of poverty.
Oxfam's Biggest Chocolate Break is tailored especially for schools. Sign up to host a Chocolate Break and we'll send you a pack full of Fairtrade Certified™ goods including Kokako drinking chocolate and Whittaker's chocolate as well as Scarborough Fair tea and Caffe L'affare coffee for the teachers, some great materials for you to promote your Chocolate Break and a range of tips and ideas on how to make fundraising at your event easy, fun and rewarding.
For many things we buy, the people who actually grow or make the products don’t earn enough to ensure a decent quality of life. Chocolate is a good example. Most of the world’s cocoa is still grown by people stuck in extreme poverty. They sell at low prices to the major companies that dominate the chocolate industry. Fair trade is an alternative that’s catching on globally and here in New Zealand. Fair trade guarantees that growers and producers get a fair minimum price for their goods, have healthy working conditions and labour practices, and take care of their environment. The result? They can afford the kinds of things you and I take for granted – like sending their kids to school, visiting a health clinic, and drinking clean water.
Your participation in Oxfam's Biggest Chocolate Break can help to continue the growth that has made New Zealand the fastest growing fair trade market in the world.
To sweeten the deal, sign up and you’re in the running to have a gorilla bring bunches of Fairtrade Certified bananas to your school – compliments of All Good – or a special visit from Oxfam at your event!
Oxfam's Biggest Chocolate Break is limited to schools only.
