Oxfam New ZealandHost a Coffee Break this Fair Trade Fortnight, May 5 - 20, 2012. Fair Choices Big Difference

Holding your Coffee Break

"We held an Oxfam Coffee Break at morning tea and invited people to enter a bake-off using at least one Fairtrade ingredient. It was a big hit! Everyone loved the food and coffee and it was great to share the Fairtrade message with so many people using the DVD and other materials provided by Oxfam."

Coffee Breaks are easy to organise and great fun.  Be as creative as you wish or keep it simple – it’s your call.

The basics are as easy as 1, 2, 3….4.

1. Sign up

This is a good time to decide when and where you are going to host your Coffee Break and who you are going to invite.  To invite your guests you could print out event invitations from our website, send an e-vite , create your own email using the Coffee Break graphics, make a Facebook event or simply call your guests to let them know the details of your Coffee Break. You can also advertise your event with our posters, which will be included in your Coffee Break host pack as well as being available on our website.

When signing up it is good to start thinking about what style of fundraising you will do.  Many hosts fundraise in the lead up to their event whilst others prefer to collect donations during the Coffee Break itself.  Make fundraising easy, fun and rewarding using our handy tips and ideas.

2. Receive

You will receive your host pack in the week leading up to your Coffee Break.  Your Coffee Break host pack will be full of Fairtrade Certified™ goods including Caffe L’affare coffee, Kokako drinking chocolate, Scarborough Fair tea, Whittaker’s chocolate, some posters for you to promote your Coffee Break and a bunch of informative material to share at your Coffee Break. You will also receive discount vouchers from Kokako and Caffe L’affare so you can top up your supplies at a friendly price.

3. Host

Now you have chosen your Coffee Break day, you’ve promoted your event and you’ve received your host pack – go ahead and share the good times with your guests!

Where and how you host your Coffee Break and how high or low-key an event it is – the choice is all yours.

It’s pretty much a given that you will spend your Coffee Break enjoying the treats we’ve sent you.  You might also wish to treat your guests to some baking using fair trade sugar, cocoa or dried fruit.  Go ahead and watch the short and sweet video Oxfam video we’ve provided so that you and your guests can learn more about the difference fair trade is making in the lives of growers and producers in some of the world’s poorest communities.  Check out more ideas for what to do at your Coffee Break.

4. Donate

The sooner we receive the proceeds from your Coffee Break, the sooner we can put the money to work. Send in your donations before May 28 and you’ll be entered into the draw to win one of our five hampers full of fairly traded goodies.
