2010 Nihotupu Tramline Walk

With regret, the 22nd annual Nihotupu Tramline did not go ahead as planned due to reasons outside of Oxfam's control. With four weeks of tunnel maintenance planned on the trail during November and the merger of Auckland's water sector causing administration difficulties, Oxfam was unable to secure the consents required to hold the event.

Fortunately, we have had confirmation that these issues will not affect the 2011 event, therefore we are looking forward to bringing you the Tramline Walk in November next year.

2009 Nihotupu Tramline Walk

The Oxfam Water for Survival Nihotupu Tramline Walk is a popular fundraising event that has taken place every year for the last 21 years. This is the only day during the year the public can walk on this trail.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 21st anniversary of the Oxfam Water for Survival Nihotupu Tramline Walk on Sunday 22 November 2009.

Despite the rain, 975 people turned out to enjoy the 6km adventure in our own backyard - past the splendid Nihotupu Falls, impressive dams, high bridges (a yummy sausage sizzle) and then get your torch ready for the journey through the six historic Rainforest Express Tunnels.

Thanks to major sponsors Tonkin & Taylor covering the event’s operational costs were are thrilled to announce that proceeds of just over $12,000 from the Nihotupu Tramline Walk will all go to support Oxfam’s Water For Survival work in the Pacific, Asia and Africa.

This is the only day during the year the public can walk on this trail. A few brave groups brought a picnic, and the Friends of Arataki sold out of sausages!

Oxfam's Water for Survival interactive experience en route was an enlightening experience for many - walking in the footsteps of women and children collecting water in Africa.
