Oxfam New Zealand is a rights-based development agency that seeks to fight social injustice and poverty by advocating for changes to policies and structures that keep people in poverty and by providing practical assistance and support to communities, to enable them to access and take advantage of resources and opportunities to improve their lives.

Oxfam Trailwalker (OTW) is the world’s greatest team challenge. Teams of four are sponsored to walk or run a 100km trail over both public and private land in Taupo, through some of New Zealand’s most stunning scenery.

You will be joining a talented and committed events team and will work for an organisation where the “heart” is truly in the work. The role of OTW Volunteer Co-ordinator is vital to the success as volunteers play a huge role in helping to run this annual event. Working initially 24 hours per week, and increasing to 32 hours per week in the lead up to and during the OTW event weekend, you will be responsible for organising and co-ordinating all aspects of volunteers’ involvement. Your efforts will therefore be key to helping make this our most successful OTW event ever.  

You know the qualities we are after - hard working, people focused, motivational, a team player, organised, detailed and flexible.  We want it all – and experience as well! This includes experience of coordinating volunteers, a knowledge of and preferably experience of large scale, mass participation events, an interest in outdoor pursuits, good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications. A great sense of humour will also go a long way when the pressure comes on, while a demonstrated commitment to the values and principles of our work is essential.

In return we can offer you a unique opportunity to create and achieve event goals not possible elsewhere. Starting in early January 2013  and working for 3.5 months, the post attracts a starting salary of $42,161 per annum pro rata/ $20.27 per hour.

So where do you fit in? Our OTW event raises around $1 million per annum in support of Oxfam’s life giving work and the role of OTW Volunteer Coordinator is vital to the event’s success. This is because volunteers are involved in every aspect of the running of the event.

Working initially 24 hours per week, and increasing to 32 hours per week in the lead up to and during the event weekend, you will be responsible for organising and co-ordinating all aspects of volunteers’ involvement.
