As a volunteer, your time, skills, energy and experience will extend Oxfam’s capacity to achieve our goals.

Volunteering at Oxfam will provide an opportunity to gain and share skills in a range of areas including data-entry, administration, international development, fundraising, event management, campaigning, media, and marketing. Volunteer working hours can be flexible and you don't have to commit to a long-term position. Volunteers are often needed for short periods to help out during busy times, for example around events or during an emergency.

Did you know that Oxfam New Zealand has over 600 volunteers and interns!

While we are not able to place every new volunteer in a specific assignment right away, we will keep your registration in our volunteer database and contact you if a position becomes available that may interest you.

Make sure you also sign-up to receive our email updates so you can keep up-to-date with our latest news and upcoming events!

Thank you so much for offering to support Oxfam as a volunteer.

Volunteer Programme Committee Member

Oxfam New Zealand (ONZ) is one of the most well known development NGOs in New Zealand. We work with partners throughout the Pacific and further afield, alongside other members of the Oxfam International family.

Currently ONZ has a vacancy on its Programme Committee for one or two experienced development professionals. The Programme Committee is comprised of development professionals from a range of backgrounds who, on a voluntary basis, provide advice to the ONZ Programme Director and programming staff at two levels:

1. Strategic level – ONZ’s programme direction in light of lessons learnt from internal and external reflection processes and international best practice.

2. Programme level – working with members of the ONZ programme staff on issues to do with the ongoing development and operation of specific ONZ projects and programmes.

Two Programme Committee meetings are held each year and these take place in Auckland.

If you would like to be considered for this important volunteer position, please send a brief expression of interest email to: Rachel.Vince@oxfam.org.nz outlining the skills and experience you would bring to this Committee and why you would like to be invited to make an application.

Expressions of interest must be received by 30 August 2010 and formal invitations to apply will be issued by mid September. It is hoped to have a new member(s) in place by the next Programme Committee meeting, which is scheduled for late October.

Oxfam New Zealand is an equal opportunities employer and encourages diversity in the workplace.

Corporate Volunteering

Reflecting the increasing popularity of volunteering, many companies offer employees the opportunity to take special Volunteer Days. Oxfam is perfect for this, as we can offer flexible hours, often on a one-day basis. If you or the organisation you work for is interested in being part of this scheme, please contact the volunteer coordinator on oxfam@oxfam.org.nz

Other Volunteering Opportunities

From time to time we are approached by other organisations asking if we have any keen volunteers to help out, please check out our opportunities below. As these are not Oxfam volunteers you will have to contact these organisations directly.

There are no current opportunities.
