As the Delta variant sweeps through Papua New Guinea (PNG), Covid-19 cases are rising far too quickly for PNG’s already overwhelmed health clinics to keep pace. Less than 3% of the population is vaccinated and the PNG government has formally requested humanitarian assistance. Without easy access to functioning ambulances, patients have to spend their own money taking taxis to hospital, adding to their stress. Many rural clinics and hospitals do not have clean water, opening up opportunities for Coronavirus to spread when people cannot wash properly.
Oxfam staff and partners in PNG have all lost someone they love to Covid-19, and know first-hand what people need in their villages and communities. You can help them to provide vital emergency support to stop the unchecked spread of disease and prevent unnecessary suffering and death.
