Emergency food crisis: hunger & famine threaten millions
The world stands on the brink of an unprecedented four famines in 2017.
In February 2017, famine was declared in parts of South Sudan. In northern Nigeria it’s likely that some 400,000 people living in areas cut off from aid are already suffering famine.
Somalia and Yemen are at risk of the same fate. The U.N recently declared that 20 million people are at risk of famine across the four countries in the coming months.
They’ve warned as many as 1.4 million children could die of starvation.
This is a food crisis we cannot ignore. The spread of famine may be imminent, but we can prevent a catastrophic loss of life if we act now.
Oxfam is already on the ground delivering life-saving food and water to families in need.
