How does this gift help?
Your life-saving gift can bring clean water to a whole school. Not only that, Oxfam also installs toilets and teaches students about the importance of hygiene. This means children stay healthier and spend more time in school getting the education they need.
Someone who benefits from clean water at school is Rebecca. Rebecca lives in Kururumba, Papua New Guinea. Her favourite subject at school is maths and she dreams of being a pilot one day. Her school now has clean water and hygienic toilets, and hand washing is now part of the daily routine. Girls stay in school longer because there is a shower to use when they get their period. Rebecca is healthier now and can spend more time in school getting the education she needs for her future.
“All the girls are happy when they built our shower room. Because some girls…when they see their periods they leave school, and they don’t come back. Now we will go into this shower room and clean ourselves and come back into the classroom and learn properly. And also we will wash our hands after using toilet. Thank you. We are happy for all these things that you bring to this school.” – Rebecca, Papua New Guinea.
