Together, we are building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world for farmers like Calisto in Timor-Leste.
Oxfam's disaster relief fund enables us to respond quickly to disasters like tropical cyclones or earthquakes and help refugees in crisis. When Cyclone Fani struck Bangladesh in May 2019, Oxfam partner Jago Nari provided families in badly affected communities with a water jug, soap, a water pitcher, ten packets of oral rehydration salts, and 4,500 taka [$74 NZD] in cash to spend on whatever they chose. The family of Samiya (shown here) bought a goat. The communities we work with raise goats and chickens to earn a steady, sustainable income from milk and eggs so that they can pay for their children's school fees, improve their homes, and save for emergencies. All of our work aims to change unfair underlying systems, so that everyone has the education, resources, and opportunities they need not just to survive, but thrive.
