Urge MPs to lead with compassion
Everyone deserves to live in a place of peace and harmony, regardless of your political beliefs or the regime of your country. But right now, people in Afghanistan face a deeply uncertain future, and a worsening humanitarian crisis. The New Zealand government can act to support more people stranded in the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.
Since the events in August 2021, thousands of Oxfam supporters joined together, alongside our partners Amnesty and Actionstation and members of the Afghan community here in Aotearoa, to call on the government to do everything it could for people at risk in Afghanistan. More than 21,000 people signed our joint petition, which we delivered to the government.
As part of this coalition, we’re continuing to call on our government to extend kindness beyond our borders and urgently increase humanitarian and development support, and to make sure safe pathways for relocation and resettlement are established for Afghan nationals to Aotearoa. Send an email to your MP through our friends at Actionstation to keep this issue front of their mind.
