Oxfam New Zealand has been on Twitter since March 2009 and we are now into our second millennium of tweets. Twitter is a micro-blogging service where each post, or 'tweet', must be less than 140 characters. Twitter is now the 11th most popular website in the world.
We'd love all our supporters who have Twitter accounts to follow us at: twitter.com/OxfamNZ. A feed of our latest tweets is included below.

Twitter and Oxfam Trailwalker

During the 2010 and 2011 Oxfam Trailwalkers, many of the participants kept their family, friends and supporters up to date with their progress using Twitter, by tweeting from course via their mobile phones. By including the #otwnz "hashtag" in their tweets, this allowed their tweets to be shared with everyone on the Oxfam Trailwalker website. And by including a number hashtag (e.g. #23 or #45km) their progress around the 100km course was plotted on a Google Map on their team page.

1000th Tweet

For our 1000th tweet we posted a link to a word cloud showing visually the content of the previous 999 tweets. This was generated using tweetstats.com and the amazing wordle.net. Our wordle word map of our first 999 tweets
